All Members, Winter Residents, Family and Friends,
Greetings on this Maundy Thursday! This is the day of Holy Week (as we now call it) that our Lord Jesus Christ met with His disciples really for the last time. Here following a special Seder Meal, commemorating the Passover prior to the exodus, Jesus ushered in the New Covenant. Here we see the first celebration of Holy Communion. Jesus used common elements, unleven bread from the Possover Seder Meal and wine, which was as common on a dinner table as water is today. The disciples were unaware, but this truly marks the very infancy of the New Testament times, the old is celebrated, but the new is coming.
So tonight we will reflect, remember, and renew this Covenant by worshipping and having Holy Communion this very evening at 6:00PM. At the end of this service we will witness the stripping of the altar in preparation for Good Friday! Please come and join us both this evening at 6;00PM and tomorrow at 6:00PM for special services.
The Lake Placid Ministerial Association Pastors of our community have been having mid-day devotions at 1st Presbyterian Church each day this week. I have noticed only one member of our church for one of the days came to these services. I have to say that the pre-service music before the preaching has been great! And the Preaching, well lets just say I have to be on top of my game on Friday when I preach the Good Friday Service. So please take time out of your day today and tomorrow to come to the mid-day services starting at 11:30AM with pre-service music and hymns and great preaching. Then go to lunch somewhere and support our local businesses this Holy Week.
I have some sad news to share with you. A long time, extremely active member of Trinity, who moved back in 2018 to the Chicago area to be with her daughter
Corrine Palcer passed away this past Monday afternoon. Cor served as my go to person for two decades for everything Altar Guild and was at the heart of so many other activities and events here at Trinity. Lou, Cor’s husband passed awhile ago were truly extended members of our family as served faithfully as adopted grandparents to our four children. Kim, Cor’s daughter indicated to Susan and myself that Cor had been declining in the past year, specifically since Thanksgiving. Kim said these last years were a true blessing for her and Cor as well as the rest of the family, spending quality time and reflecting on life and enjoying the time they spent together.
There will be a memorial service at their church in the near future. Kim had requested that any memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lake Placid.
Trinity has lost two great pioneers and faithful members in the past weeks, both Paul Lang and Cor Palcer. Heaven has been blessed with two great believers!
Speaking of Paul Lang there wll be a memorial service for him on Friday April 25th, 2025 at 11:00AM.
